The Challenge

Our client, a fast-growing application security and code-scanning platform, needed to run account-based displacement campaigns targeting their largest competitors’ customer bases.

The AppSec market is crowded and consolidating. Buyers rarely switch tools on a whim; displacement requires reaching the exact decision-makers who sign off on security tooling
at companies already using a competing product. Generic intent data and broad ICP lists weren’t precise enough. Their integrated marketing team needed to know two things with certainty:

  1. Which specific companies are current paying customers of the four largest competitors
  2. Which named individuals inside those companies – across executive, security, developer, and crossover functions – actually influence or approve AppSec purchases


The team arrived at our first call with a fully developed ICP taxonomy, which told us they’d already tried generic databases and knew what was missing. Their title list spanned four buyer functions:

The Solution

We scoped a phased engagement to deliver verified customer datasets for each named competitor, mapped to the client’s exact title taxonomy and enriched with the firmographic fields their sales and marketing teams needed to segment, route, and personalize outreach.

Across the full engagement, we delivered ~6,600 verified companies and ~37,500 decision-maker contacts spanning the four largest competitors in the client’s displacement target set.

Every record was built against the client’s title taxonomy – not an approximation of it. Each dataset was validated before delivery and handed over with full firmographic enrichment ready for ingestion into their ABM and outbound stacks.

The Results

The buyer deployed the combined datasets through their outbound and ABM programs, targeting verified decision-makers across their competitors’ customer bases. What followed validated both the quality of the data and the economics of competitive displacement as a go-to-market motion.

Campaign performance across the full engagement

From the ~6,600 verified competitor customers and ~37,500 decision-maker contacts delivered across four datasets, the buyer’s campaigns generated:

  • Positive response from 1,000+ companies across outbound, ABM, and event-driven touchpoints
  • ~11% of engaged accounts converted into paying customers within the first two quarters of outreach
  • ~28% of those new customers expanded or renewed, becoming repeat revenue accounts
  • The remaining engaged accounts entered nurture and pipeline cycles for future conversion
